Cyprus, a tale of 2 countries.

(Walking the Green Line of the last divided city in the world - Lefkosia aka Nicosia) It is february 2024, and we return from our regular Kenya Mission trip in January, this time accompanied by my sister Marjo and her husband Herman as well as our friends Linda and Gary. As Linda and Gary made the long trip from the US to Kenya and because Amsterdam is cold and dreary in February and especially this year, we concocted a follow up trip to Cyprus an island not yet visited and decidedly warmer. (Border crossing into Turkish Cyprus) (Turks are kind enough to also have Greek as a translation of their warning) (The Greek side of a border crossing has a civil rights  stone monument calling for a spirit of brotherhood in this divided city) Our 10 days there were divided in touring the southern coast of the Greek side (the republic of Cyprus), followed by a trip into the Troodos mountain area and then onward to our last stay in Lefkosia (the Greek name for Nicosia) the capital, the last div...

Alaska, a land trip during the summer of 2023

(The float plane that brought us to the bear reserve on Kodiak island) Sandee and I have always been adverse to cruises, and thus Alaska did not get much priority on our schedule. 2023 had a relatively open schedule, so we endeavored a land tour in July. We tried to do a “Bear cruise” on a former small 8 person research ship, but were in May informed that the ship needed maintenance on our booked week. So we went to a bear resort instead. (This Mom and cubs in the Inuit managed bear reserve  on Kodiak island was on the last 3 days of our trip but  they were cute cubs so they start this blog) You will have to follow our story via the pictures below, which are not reflecting the time sequence of our travel schedule. Our Trip to India, Reflections and of course the Pictures

(If your love is forever, you need to stand in front of the Taj Mahal) Sandee and I avoid taking group travel, (we only took one in Egypt and one to Antartica) and that had been till now the reason not to visit India, as we thought it too overwhelming to try traipsing around India by ourselves. (There is no better way to describe traffic chaos than in showing you the scooter/motor parking lot. Our first drive from the airport to the hotel confronted us with multiple rows of cars- 5 rows on a divided 3 lane road in each direction, populated with cars, bikes, a food cart drawn by a donkey  and a truck driving against the traffic on the  shoulder lane. We found out later that because of the hedged division between the in both direction steered traffic, sometimes an exit that allows you to reach your destination is too far away, so the truck driver decides to traverse the last part by driving against the traffic as a shortcut) (The  old town of New Delhi like most developing ...
